Why I Started Craft Club

Hi Besties
My queens, princesses, mommies, babies.
The girls I constantly overshare to.
This is so cool to have you here, reading this with me.
I am in awe of you (yes, you reading this) and our little (massive) community.
This is a little hard to type right now because I tore off all the luminary on my nails and now they feel like they might fly off with a good breeze—you know what I mean?
So, why did I start Craft Club?
Let me set the scene.
I’ve lived in Utah for around 10 years. I’ve met some of my very best friends here, and I love them to pieces.
But life happens.
Some friends moved away, some got married and started families, and some just drifted apart.
It’s the splinter era—when people start moving in different directions—which made me look around and realize I needed a new community.
I’ve always loved learning
I used to take night classes at UVU—woodworking, interior design, anything creative.
When I tried to find a space to keep doing things like woodworking, it was always… like… some guy’s garage. Not really the vibe (respectfully)
So I had the idea to combine the two:
What if there was a place where you could be creative while also building community and making new friends?
And that’s how CC came to be.
And of course, I talked it out with everyone
You guys know me—I cannot keep an idea to myself. I talked to all my friends, all the time, about what I wanted this to be.
Honestly, they’re just as much a part of Craft Club as I am. I’m so grateful for them.
My New York Epiphany
At the beginning of 2024, I came back from a trip to New York with this totally different mindset:
“Nothing matters.”
But in a freeing way. Like—why not just do the thing?
I also watched A LOT of old people being interviewed on TikTok. And they all said the same things:
- Love your people
- Cherish your family (especially your parents)
- Do the thing you’ve been dreaming of
- Tell people how you feel
So I did it
I came home.
I posted my very first meetup on a Facebook group called "Utah Girls Make Friends"
It was a collage night, and I rented a small space.
That was March 2024.
And now? Look at us.
We’ve taken over Utah.
K ‘til next time!!
Keep having fun!!
Love you!!
Janelle
